I’m really excited to be exhibiting alongside my husband, artist Keith Murray, at the 5th Friday Art Walk in Pauls Valley, OK on September 30th. I’ve spent 30 years joining him as a supportive spectator, but never as a fellow artist. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to start consistently making art. Better late than never.
I turned 50 this year, and something just seemed to click into place. I’ve read that writer P.D. James didn’t start writing until her 40s, and she was writing until she died at 94.
Somehow we’ve bought into this idea that we can’t have vibrant and wildly creative lives into old age. I don’t buy it. It doesn’t jive with my experience.
I’m not going to go ‘softly into that good night’ if softly means dull with my candle going out. I hope no one does. We’ve all got gifts in us that the world needs … whatever they are.
Part of our creative job is figuring out how to share them.
Then hopefully, it’s Katy bar the door.
